1.Creating Mouth

Step 1

StartMayaand open the file which was saved in the last part of the tutorial.

Step 2

Create a Pipein the front view and set the value ofSubdivisions Axis to 20.

Step 3

Place the pipe according to the reference images.

Step 4

Delete the half part of the mesh according to the following image.

Step 5

With the rest part of the mesh selected, go toEdit >Duplicate Special command to make a mirrored copy of the mesh.

Step 6

Select the three indicated faces of the mesh as shown in the following image.

Step 7

With the faces selected, apply the Extrude command to extrude the faces as shown in the following image.

Step 8

Jump in the vertex selection mode and edit the shape of the mesh according to the reference images.

Step 9

To add more details to the mesh, insert an edge loop as shown in the following image.

2.Creating Head Cover

Step 1

Jump in the face selection mode and select the indicated faces of the mesh as shown in the following image.

Step 2

With the faces selected, go toEdit Mesh >Duplicate command.

Step 3

After applying the command, the half part of the mesh gets deleted by default. So, you need to apply the duplicate special command once again.

Step 4

Select the outer edge loop of the duplicated faces as shown in the following image.

Step 5

Apply Extrude command to extrude the selected edge loop a bit as shown in the following image.

Step 6

Extrude the same edge loop once more.

Step 7

Keep extruding the edge loop according to the flow shown in the reference images.

To add details to the mesh, split the edges as shown in the following image.

Jump in the face selection mode and select the split faces as shown in the following image.

By using Multi Cut tool, insert the indicated edges as shown in the following image.

Jump in the vertex selection mode and adjust the vertices to edit the shape of the mesh as shown in the following image.

Step 12

Keep extruding the edges according to the reference images.

Insert an edge loop at the end of the mesh as shown in the following image.

Jump in the perspective view and edit the vertices as shown in the following image.

Insert several cuts to maintain the edge topology and mesh flow as shown in the following image.

Insert several more edges to add details to the mesh flow.

The indicated edges and cuts have been inserted to add details to the mesh.

3.Dividing Head Mesh

Step 1

Insert indicated edge loop to make the hard surfaced shape of the mesh.

Step 2

Select the entire border edges except the center border edges as shown in the following image.

Step 3

With the border edges selected, apply Extrude command to extrude the edges as shown in the following image.

Step 4

To add more details, insert edge loops at both corners as shown in the following image.

Step 5

Jump in the edge selection mode and edit the edges to make the shape as shown in the following image.

4.Attaching Mirrored Meshes

Step 1

With both meshes selected, go toMesh >Combine command.

Step 2

Following the same way, combine the head top meshes together also.

Step 3

Jump in the vertex selection mode and with all center vertices selected, applyMerge command.

Step 4

With the indicated border face loop selected, go toEdit Mesh >Duplicate command.

Step 5

With the duplicate faces selected, drag them down a little bit in Z axis.

Step 6

Select the indicated faces and delete them.

Step 7

After deleting the faces, reshape the mesh as shown in the following image.

Complete the shape of the mesh as shown in the following image.

Press 3 key to check the smoothness of the mesh.

5.Creating Ariel

Step 1

Create a polygon cylinder geometry shape and place it as shown in the reference image.

Step 2

Insert several edge loops as shown in the following image.

Step 3

With the central faces selected, apply Extrude command as shown in the following image.

Insert edge loops and delete the indicated faces as shown in the following image.

Step 5

With the corner edges selected, go toEdit Mesh >Bevel command to make the corner beveled.

Extrude the indicated shapes as shown in the following image.

To make the shape more detailed, insert several edge loops around the border as shown in the following image.

Create a polygon cube in the side view as shown in the following image. This will act as the aerial of the robot.

Jump in the vertex selection mode and edit the shape of the cube as per the reference images.

To add details to the cube, insert several edge loops as shown in the following image. Edit the shape of the cube according to the reference image.

Insert several edge loops to the corners as shown in the following image.

6.Creating Neck

Step 1

To create the neck part of the robot, take a polygon cylinder mesh and place it according to the references images.

Edit the shape of the cylinder as shown in the following image.

Step 3

Create a duplicate copy of the neck mesh and place it on the opposite side of the neck.

Step 4

Following the previous steps, create suspension pipes and joint balls as shown in the following image.

Step 5

Adjust each and every part of the neck including the various pipes as shown in the following image.

Step 6

Create several supportive pipes mechanism and place it as per the reference images and as shown in the following image.

In this way, the full body mechanism of the robot is completed.
